Avon Valley Country Park minature railway visit, 18th June 2009

On 18th June 'Boys will be Boys' as the branch, jointly with the Bath Railway Society, had the run of the Avon Valley Country Park 5" ground level railway at Keynsham. Everyone could drive after a fifteen second intensive driving course. The automatic colour lights had to be obeyed, important as there are two crossings on the level, during the 1200 yard plus 9 minute journey over a very convoluted route. With about six car battery powered trains running, including two freights, St Trinians had nothing on the driving prowess of the RCTS members. It is anticipated that the signal frame in the signal box will soon be connected to the points which on the running line are all trailing. One driver was surprised to find a chicken in the tunnel! Apart from the occasional derailment the evening was a great success. A fun night which may become an annual event. This is a public railway open 7 days a week April to November.
