BRISTOL On 1st July 66160 departed at 12.00 with a train of Network Rail ballast wagons, 66506 worked down LE to Fairwater Yard, Taunton, 57012 (DRS livery) worked up LE at 13.00 en route from Plymouth to Crewe and 66085 arrived at 13.10 with 25 fuel tanks from Fawley to Bristol and the South West. The fuel trains were also noted with 66076 on 8th and 66105 on 15th. On 2nd July 37423 + Test coach 975025 Caroline was stabled at 08.00 On 25th July 5029 “Nunney Castle” arrived at 10.07 with a charter from Solihull returning at 15.36. Also on 26th 150243 worked the 06.00 Portsmouth Harbour Cardiff in place of a 3-car 158/9 and then returned on the 10.30 Cardiff to Portsmouth, but on arrival 150244 was added

60007 reverses through Temple Meads  
to provide a 4-car formation. 150244, however, was a hybrid unit comprised of 57244 in First Great Western dynamic lines livery and 52282 from set 150282 in Arriva Train Wales livery. With 150243 in the former Wessex maroon livery this provided a very colourful train of 4 coaches in three different liveries. The 09.09 SO Bristol to Weymouth was worked by 67020/21 on 5th July, 67005/06 on 12th, 67021/29 on 19th, and 67025/01 on 26th. This year’s Torbay Express steam hauled charters at 09.18 from Bristol started with 34067 “Tangmere” on 6th and 13th and 6024 “King Edward I” on 20th and 27th. The Steel from Newport ADJ produced 60039 on 16th July and 66094/101/102/129/135/137/139/160 on other dates.

BARTON HILL/KINGSLAND ROAD On 28th June 66506/515/596/603 were at Kingsland Road.

BRISTOL PARKWAY On 24th June 66414 worked up at 13.20 hauling new 66305/304/301 for Fastline en route from Newport to Crewe, and 66522 worked a down stone train to Pengam at 14.05. On 10th 66623 worked down stone to Neath at 10.30 and 66601 worked down stone empties to Hackney yard at 18.00. On 19th 66560 was on empty coal in Stoke Gifford Yard at 09.00 and 66507 arrived with another at 15.40 and stabled until the 21st. On 21st 57006 was noted on a down freight at 20.15 and on 25th 60047 worked down at 17.55 with empty steel from Swindon to Newport ADJ. Down afternoon oil empties have been noted with 60005/12/13/52/54/71/91 and the Wentloog to Millbrook Freightliner has produced 66517/534/568/570/572/576/577/580/587/594.

WESTERLEIGH Loco’s on oil were 60005/07/14/21/25/47/71/74/76/79/91/94.

FILTON On 26th June 59202 worked the Machen to Westbury stone train down at 14.00 and on 28th Deltic 55002 worked a charter to Penzance down at 08.07. On 30th June DRS 57012 worked down LE at 08.02. The SO stone train from Pengam to Theale works down at about 09.30 and was noted with 66531 on 5th July, 66526 on 19th and 66506 on 26th. On 14th July 60005 worked the Parc Slip to Westbury MGR down at 14.30, and on 25th 60039 worked up at 17.50 with empty MGR’s from Westbury. On 22nd 66598 worked up with ballast wagons at 23.10. On 24th 66166 worked empty HTA’s to Portbury down at 13.20, followed by 60005 on empty MGR’s from South Wales at 13.26, 66545 worked up coal at 13.30 and 153356 in unbranded Central Trains green livery worked down at 13.35 en route from Derby to Eastleigh. Stone trains continue to arrive here to unload stone, running first to Avonmouth to run-round, then after unloading departing to Temple Meads to run round before departing either north or to South Wales. 60064 was noted on this train on 26th June and blue 60074 on 8th and 11th July. Loaded trains have also arrived from Crewe hauled by Freightliner loco’s including 66546 on 23rd July.

PILNING On 16th July 66015 worked up at 18.42 with the Newport ADJ to Wembley, 66044 down at 19.14 with HTA’s from Portbury to Aberthaw, 66182 up at 19.20 with the Wentloog to Didcot MOD train, 66016 up at 20.13 with empty HTA’s for Portbury and 57006 at 20.23 with a Cardiff to Ripple Lane Scrap train.

HALLEN MARSH JUNCTION On 4th 66089 arrived at the Bulk Handling Terminal (BHT) at 07.01 with the Enterprise service from Wembley and later top and tailed with 08405 into Chittening. On 8th July DB Schenker liveried 60040 was noted at Brentry at 17.15 on the Avonmouth to Westbury stone train. On 17th 67026 worked the Avonmouth to Wembley. Coal trains have been noted with 66016/44/075/081/141/150/156/164/185/187/194/196/197.

SEVERN BEACH LINE On 21st July Test Unit 950001 worked down past Avonmouth at 13.19 and was later noted at Pill on the Portbury branch at 14.20, returning at 14.51

PORTBURY BRANCH Coal trains have been noted with 66040/044/060/100/124/142, 66156/165/166/175/196/227, 66507/519/535/545/551/556/559/560/584/611/618/619. The Car train to Washwood Heath has been noted with 66050/115/149/188/238.

BATH On 3rd July 66506 worked up LE at 12.55 and A4 60007 “Sir Nigel Gresley” worked the Cathedrals Express to Temple Meads at 13.41, returning on the 16.35 from Temple Meads at 16.53.

On 12th 67003/027 in multiple worked a 06.12 Stevenage to Paignton down at 09.35; and on 16th A4 60019 “Bittern” worked the Cathedrals Express to Temple Meads at 13.08, the second A4 from Bath to Bristol in 10 days!! The Binliner has been worked by 66506/515/548/596 this month.

WESTBURY On 5th July the Stobart Pullman was noted passing Pewsey top and tailed by 47712 and 47832 on a return excursion from Paignton. On 14th July the Class 150 due to work the 20.38 to Bristol failed at Westbury and was replaced by HST 43087/093 off the 18.06 Paddington to Frome which normally works ECS to St Philips Marsh. On 16th a variation from the usual diet of Class 59 and 66 was provided by 60040 and 60075 working two down stone trains within an hour in the afternoon. On 23rd 35028 “Clan Line” arrived with the VSOE from Victoria and was replaced by 66122 which had arrived LE from the Bristol direction.

The MWO Cement to Moorswater has been noted with 66596 on 23rd June, 66522 on 30th and 66531 on 2nd July. On 26th 37259/612 and Network Rail Train were stabled in Patney siding in front of the Panel box.

YATTON On 28th June 55022 worked a return charter from Penzance to Birmingham International up at 20.20. On 7th July 66623 worked a sand train from Burngullow to Neath up at 09.55 and on 19th 66621 and 66622 top and tailed a Taunton to Hullavington concrete sleeper and machinery train up at 21.15.
