The first outdoor fixture of the new year was to Chesterfield. Six members arrived by way of Crewe and Derby with four members travelling via Stockport and Sheffield. Thankfully the weather was reasonable following the long spell of frosty temperatures. The party spent much of the time on the footbridge to the north of the station where we met up with a Sheffield Branch member. The sparse freight traffic during that time disappointed apart from the triple headed Doncaster Decoy-Toton working. The number of passenger workings meant that the line was busy. The outward journey for the Liverpool group was delayed by problems between Flixton and Hazel Grove and at one stage a hearse and following cars easily overtook our train. On their return passing Earle’s sidings at 16.00 66561 was noted. The group traveling via Derby noted 66302 on their outward journey there. They left Chesterfield at 14.39 in order to ensure some comfort on the Cl.153 Derby-Crewe leg of their journey and saw 66517 at Derby on a freightliner working.
