Neal, the eldest son of Janet and Peter (Sam) Woods of Hurworth was married recently to Catherine Mudd of Romanby. Sam has been a lifelong railway enthusiast (his garden backs onto the ECML!), and it is no surprise that Neal follows this interest. In addition to being a RCTS member, he can be found (when not working as a tool maker) on the footplate of main line locomotives across England, Scotland and Wales. In addition to being a fireman for West Coast Railways, Neal is a member and volunteer of NELPG, whilst Catherine is a pianist for Northallerton Male Voice Choir.

Catherine and Neal were married at Northallerton Methodist Church. The bride, a business support manager, is the only daughter of Eunice and Alan Mudd, and Paula Sanderman attended her. The bridegroom chose Tim Rees as his best man and Tony Woods, his younger brother, and Brian Donaldson, cousin of the bride, as his groomsmen. Following the service, the wedding party retired to the Ripon Spa Hotel for the reception. The honeymoon was spent in Canada and, yes, it included a train ride through the Rockies!

The photographs show the happy couple and parents, and dad Sam looking resplendent in his new hat! After returning to the UK, Neal was soon back on the footplate. On 16 August the superbly restored 46115 Scots Guardsman tackled the S&C, and the two photographs show Neal and his driver, 73 year old Bill Andrew, at Hellifield and later the 12 coach 430 ton train is seen climbing smartly through Horton in Ribblesdale. The last two photographs are shown with kind permission of David Rodgers.
