Meetings are held at two centres in the North East, at Newcastle on the second Thursday and at Darlington on the last Saturday of each month. Non – members are always welcome to attend these meetings.

Newcastle: These are held in Room 1 at Brunswick Methodist Hall, Brunswick Place (behind Fenwick’s Store), Newcastle. The Society usually meets on the second Thursday of each month from September to May inclusive, although these dates are occasionally altered around Bank Holidays. Meetings commence at 18.30 hours (note earlier start time) and finish by 21.30 hours when the premises close. Unfortunately there are no refreshment facilities available, but there is usually a short break during the procedures to examine the stock of Society publications and second hand books etc. that are usually on view. Room 1 is situated on the first floor; on entering the building turn right and go up the stairs. At the top turn right, go through the door(s) and the meeting room is directly ahead.

Parking is very restricted nearby, and first time visitors are recommended to either travel by public transport or use the multi-story car park near the bus station on Percy Street. There is a fixed fee (£1.20 in February 2001) from 18.00 hours until the car park closes at 22.00 hours.

If travelling by rail to Newcastle, leave the station and cross the road towards Grainger Street. Proceed along Grainger Street towards Grey’s Monument, which should be visible ahead. At the Monument, continue ahead into Northumberland Court to the right of Waterstones Booksellers. Brunswick Methodist Hall is directly ahead, with the entrance on the right. Walking time 10 minutes.Alternatively travel by Tyne and Wear Metro to Monument Station. On leaving the station, turn left at Grey’s Monument and proceed as above. Walking time 2 minutes

Darlington: These are held in the Committee Room at The Arts Centre, Vane Terrace, Darlington. The Society usually meets on the last Saturday of each month from September to May inclusive, although the December meeting is usually held on the third Saturday and the May meeting sometimes brought forward due to the Bank Holiday. Meetings commence at 19.00 hours and finish about 22.00 hours with a break of around 15 minutes for ‘refreshments’ and the perusal of books etc. There is a bar on the ground floor, where sandwiches and light snacks are usually available. The centre is open all day, so any visitors arriving early may partake of the facilities on offer! The Committee room is situated on the first floor; on entering the building turn right and through the doors at the far corner of the refreshment area. Climb the stairs, and the meeting room is directly ahead on the small landing.

There are a few parking bays in the grounds at the front of the building, but a larger car park may be found at the left of the main building. There is also unrestricted road parking nearby.

If travelling by rail, leave Darlington (Bank Top) station via the subway near the travel centre. Walk down Victoria Road towards the town centre and at the roundabout continue straight ahead along the A67 (Barnard Castle). Pass the cricket ground and the Safeway store on the left, then Grange Road on the right. Continue ahead alongside the large roundabout then bear right into West Street and left into Coniscliffe Road. Pass Larchfield Street on the right, and turn at the next right into Stanhope Road South. At the roundabout turn left into Abbey Road then next right into Vane Terrace. The Arts centre is 100 yards on the left, past the Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College. Walking time 25 minutes.
