The branch was formed in March 1950 and we are pleased to say that some of the original and early members are still attending indoor meetings. The geographical area covered by the Branch includes the Hope Valley, Chesterfield, Retford, Doncaster and Barnsley.
In years gone by the Branch organised rail tours and outdoor visits to railway sites, principally locomotive depots. Recently however, outdoor visits have been few and far between due to the loss of suitable railway sites and the restrictions now in place following the privatisation of the railway system.
Les Nixon Tel 01433 650278 is the RCTS (national) Photographic Portfolio Secretary who can be contacted for further information.
Branch meetings are held at St Matthews Church Rooms, Carver Street, Sheffield S1 4FS, commencing at 19:15 for a prompt 19:30 start.
The Church Rooms are approximately 10 minutes uphill walk from the railway station and the adjacent Sheffield Interchange (bus station). Alternatively the nearest tram stop is City Hall less than 5 minutes walk from the venue. This is served by blue route trams from the railway station and yellow route trams from Meadowhall.
A voluntary donation of £1.00 members / £2.00 non-members is suggested.
Both Society members and non-members are very welcome to attend our meetings.
