Newsletter - Autumn 2009

Dear Member,

Our 2009-2010 programme of meetings at Woking commences on 22 September and the Branch programme card is enclosed. We have again arranged an interesting and varied range of speakers at our meetings and we look forward to seeing you.

At our first meeting we have a presentation from Stewart Palmer, Managing Director of South West Trains. Stewart gave an informative talk at the Members' weekend in 2007, and he will tell us about current and future developments on South West Trains.

Our meetings will now be held at The Wheatsheaf Ember Inn, Chobham Road, Woking. This is a short walk (10 minutes) from Woking station. A map with directions is enclosed. The reasons for the move from Christ Church, Woking were explained at the AGM in May, but briefly the Church were unable to let us continue to use the Woodham Hall on Tuesday evenings due to other events in the building, and the alternative room offered for our meetings was unsuitable.

If anyone requires assistance to get from Woking station to The Wheatsheaf, please call me (Alan Norris - 01252-315967) by Sunday 20 September at the latest.

Exhibitions

Our branch has stands at various local model railway exhibitions during the year, where we promote the Society and sell RCTS Publications and donated books. The next exhibitions where we have booked a stand are:

Tolworth Showtrain14-15 November 2009
Astolat MRC Guildford 16 Jan 2010 [one day]
Egham and Staines MRC at Egham (To be confirmed)Jan 2010 [one day]

We especially need assistance with the stand at Woking on Saturday 12 September, but also at Aldershot and Tolworth.

If you are able to come along and help on the stand then please call Andy Davies, our Exhibitions Officer, on 01932 855015 or e-mail him at andy_davies5@hotmail.com. You will be able to gain free admission to the exhibition.

Committee for this year.

The previous committee of Alan Norris (Chairman), Peter Bosomworth (Secretary), Bob Ellison (Treasurer), Irene Rabbitts (Fixtures), and Andy Davies (Sales and Exhibitions) were re-elected at the AGM. In addition we are pleased to welcome Anthony Eynstone to the committee.

RCTS Website

The Society's website www.rcts.org.uk has up-to-date news and information about the RCTS and each branch. On the Surrey Branch pages you will find reports of our past meetings and visits, with more detail than in the summary branch reports in the RO (Railway Observer). The books currently available on our sales stand are also listed. The RO and the website have details of all the forthcoming meetings held throughout the country.

E-mail reminders of our Branch meetings

If you have given us your e-mail address then you will receive a reminder message a few days before our meetings, and also other messages about items of local railway interest. If you would like to be added to our list of e-mail addresses (or if you wish to have your e-mail address removed from our list) then please send me a brief message (address at end of this letter). We will only use your details for branch purposes.

We look forward to seeing you at some or all of our meetings in the coming season.

Yours sincerely,

Alan Norris
