From Monday 25th January we will be holding joint meetings with the Brighton Branch of the Locomotive Club of Great Britain.
Our meetings will be held at the Brighton Model Railway Club Room, London Road Station, Shaftesbury Place, Brighton BN1 4QS. Entrance is via the Booking Hall which is up a flight of steps from Shaftesbury Place. There is no access from the platforms to the booking hall in the evening. Anyone with limited mobility should ring Paul Snelling on 07761-182704 to arrange access.
If arriving by train at London Road Station from Brighton cross to the up platform either by the steps or subway. The steps take one outside of the station and on descending on the up side continue ahead along the footpath to emerge into Shaftesbury Place. The station building is on the right hand side.
If arriving by train from the Lewes area arrival will be at the up platform. For passengers crossing from the down platform via the subway the instructions are now the same. There are two exits off the up platform. That nearest Lewes is via a gateway in a wall. Pass through the gateway and turn right, then descend the steps into Shaftesbury Place. The station building is on the right hand side. The other exit is at the Brighton end of the station beyond the booking hall. A footpath leads down into Shaftesbury Place. The station building is on the right hand side.
For the visitor arriving by car Brighton is a mass of one way streets. The easiest way to find us is to enter via the A23 London Road. From the outskirts of Brighton proceed south along the A23 London Road. At Preston Park bear left into the one way system following the signs for A23 Town Centre and Seafront. Following the one way system and bear right into Beaconsfield Road. Ahead will be seen the London Road Viaduct. Turn left immediately before the viaduct into Springfield Road. About two thirds of the way up there is a pub, The Open House, on the right hand side. From this point a footpath leads to London Road Station over a foot bridge. From here follow the directions as for train passengers. Parking in this area is at a premium and it is suggested that drivers turn left into Southdown Avenue. Spaces can be found along the length of Southdown Avenue. Alternatively turn left at the first cross roads along Southdown Avenue into Florence Road.
For drivers who hold blue disability badges will find a couple of spaces immediately outside the station in Shaftesbury Place. From the outskirts of Brighton proceed south along the A23 London Road. At Preston Park bear left into the one way system following the signs for A23 Town Centre and Seafront. Following the one way system and bear right into Beaconsfield Road. Ahead will be seen the London Road Viaduct. Turn left immediately after the viaduct into Ditchling Rise. Shaftesbury Place is about two thirds of the way up Ditchling Rise on the left, opposite a pub on the right hand side.
Ascend the steps to the booking hall. The booking hall is closed for business in the evening and there is a notice to this effect. If the club is meeting the door will be unlocked by 19:15. Enter the booking hall and enter the club rooms by the door on the left hand side of the booking hall.
Meetings commence at 1930. Meetings are normally held on the 4th Monday unless shown otherwise. Any amendments to this fixture list will appear in The Railway Observer, the LCGB Journal and on this website.
Members and visitors are very welcome to join us at our meetings.
A £2 donation is requested to help cover expenses.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are usually available at extra cost.
