The fixed distant signal needs an explanation. The stop arm is not the home signal for Harlech signal box. It is the down stop signal for the level crossing, and carries beneath it the fixed distant for Harlech box (which also has a level crossing beside it)

The crossing in question is HARLECH MORFA LC.

My wife was born (1940) at the level crossing cottage . ( Photo G-092-03A ). Where her mother Mrs Nancy Evans was the crossing keeper for most of her working life till the crossing was automated and the cottage demolished. Can you please tell us where we may apply for a copy of the photo? Because there are none in our family. Regards David POOLE.
