As part of the electrification programme, it is proposed to reinstate the slow lines between Huyton and a location between Roby & Broad Green, in order to allow express services to overtake local services. Unfortunately, 4-track restoration throughout to Edge Hill is now impossible, due to occupation of the trackbed at Broad Green by new roads adjacent to the M62, and also by the constuction of Wavertree Technology Park station.
