Following the northbound progress of the locomotives from the previous frame as they pass the Chaddesden Junction we are now looking roughly north with the River Derwent in the foreground.

I agree with John Simmonds

The area behind the brick wall were where the old MR Signal works use to stand. This area built signal boxes and frames for the Midland and LMS Railways. The area in the foreground is now taken up by the Derby Telegraph. I have seen a picture in the old Derby Telegraph of the works in the 1920's with 12 signal box lever frames in the process of being made up. The far end of the site is now the Trent Bus garage.

It is highly likely that 4498 & 4771 are on their way to Tyseley for their part in the LCGB "Gresley Commemorative" Railtours of 1/7/73 [Two trains} Each loco worked Tyseley - Didcot, returning on the other train i.e. No.1 out - No.2 return. See "Six Bells Junction".

When Courtney was taking this picture, I was getting ready to take mine, as I was standing near the signals in the distance. The two locos are heading north, so certainly not going to Tyseley.
