Looks like the train is coming off the branch from Stanton Iron works and about to head down the goods line to Toton. It is just about to head under the M1

Semaphores at Stanton Gate Jct.
26/01/2013 from Mike Christensen
This signal was worked by Stanton Gate Shunting Frame. It applied to the Up direction on the up and down Mapperley Goods Branch Which led to Stanton New Works Sidings. The centre arm (lever 49) read to the Up Goods (G) or the Up Main (M). The left bracket (lever 50) read across to the Departure line on the up side, and the right bracket (lever 48) to the down sidings. Below 49 signal was a distant signal applicable to either Trent signal box TT157 signal on the Up Goods line or TT158 signal on the Up Main line.

Stanton Gate was my home station for fourteen years. Basically Mike Christensen is right. I think he is looking at the original Trent PSB diagram? The distant signal would have been fixed at caution. Edgar Hinsley was the traffic assistant & George Wass was foreman in the down yard.
