With the Sankey (or St Helens) canal on the left, it was officially abandoned in 1963.

Another cl. 50, heading south. It appears to have the jumper cables fitted for mlutiple working, which would suggest we are in or nearly in 1974. Please correct me if I'm writing nonsense!!

If the films are in order we are between 28th August when the Deltic fire was recorded at Berwick and 17th September 1972 when the semaphore signals were swept away here. I seem to recall pairs of class 50s were used on the Anglo Scottish trains whilst waiting for the 'Electric Scots' to be introduced.

Max & Dave are correct, the 50's worked the Anglo-Scottish expresses north of Crewe until the full electrification to Glasgow in May 1974. I am reliably informed by class 50 bashing colleagues that D400 & possibly also D401 appeared as-new with jumper cables but the rest had blanking plates over the ports & were subsequently fitted after 1971 so the class could work in multiple & keep time.
