Q12.09. O2 class 0-4-4T LSWR 209, later W24 Calbourne

With the proposed running of W24 Calbourne at Bodmin in April, a member would like to know if this loco with its original LSWR No. 209 identity was ever shedded at Wadebridge and worked the Padstow to Bodmin Service? The RCTS Locomotives of the LSWR Part 2 states that 209 was inspected at Nine Elms for a proposed sale to the Isle of Wight Central Railway in August 1903 but this fell through and was working at Exeter on local services during 1904-6, but with no more information until transfer to the Isle of Wight by the Southern in April in 1925.

Answer

I have seen records of O2s 181, 182, 192, 193, 198 199, 200, 203, 207, 211, 214, 216, 219, 221, 228 and 236 being at Wadebridge in the period 1896 to 1961. Some of them came and went again several times, but not, unfortunately, 209, although obviously I cannot, at this distance in time. say it was never at Wadebridge. (MD:9218)
