Rugby-Peterborough East traction mystery photo evidence

A while ago I posted a message about traction used on the last day of the Rugby-Peterborough East service, based on RO reports and pictures on flickr. That message is here: http://www.rcts.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=380 Recently I looked at the RCTS mystery photograph collection, which has man...

Re: Halton Curve

Thanks for the link. Maybe work is required on the viaduct over the M56 at the Frodsham end? I remember doing this line in the early 90s when the only passenger train was a summer Saturday afternoon loco hauled train from Llandudno to Liverpool. But I've lost track of how the service has been mainta...

Re: Doncaster Works lists

We have met by the way on a Railtour a few years back (we were seated together) One question - when was 31294 renumbered and when did it enter Donny, because looking at this guys notes he saw it between Glos and Swindon on 2/3/74 - may even have dragged his DMU to Swindon judging by his notes!! Unk...

Re: ID Fowler 3F at Bletchley cicra 1963/64

Straying from the original question a bit, does your father's photo collection from Bletchley include any diesel loco hauled passenger services on the Cambridge-Oxford route? Or any summer Saturday trains to or from the South Coast routed via Bletchley and Oxford instead of via the Great Central?

Re: Doncaster Works lists

Thanks again Nigel, these are very helpful.

And I'm intrigued that some locos, while undergoing repair, got identified by their pre-TOPS numbers some while after official renumbering.

The 1973 lists are particularly useful for green to blue relivery dates.

Ian Prince wrote:Only the list from 1973 posted above. Earlier visits I didn't record the numbers unfortunately.

The 2 lists that you have given were both very helpful. Regarding the 07/10/73 list I think at least 5 of those were still green when they went into works: 5557, 5623/32/54 and 5843.

Re: Dalescroft Railfans

I have records of visits to Doncaster Works spanning the years 1973 to 75, all with the Dalescroft Railfans. I think there are 4 visits in total. Plenty of Class 31s around at the time. If anyone wants this info then please let me know. I also recollect that we visited Stratford Works but this was ...

Re: COMFORTABLE TRAVELLING?

I also dislike high-backed seats, and think that whoever first suggested airline-style seating layouts clearly understood nothing about the appeal of real train travel. Airline style seating first started as a way of getting more seats into less space for commuting journeys, I remember some MkIIs b...
