Re: Slough station - historical

Royal trains ceased to use Windsor and Eton Central when the station was reduced to a single platform as part of the 1968 Paddington resignalling. Through the 1970s various Royal Trains departed or arrived at Slough with road transport to and from Windsor Castle. I have asked a friend, who grew up i...

Re: COMFORTABLE TRAVELLING?

Here on the GN we have recently had class 387/1 inflicted upon us, with class 700 invading imminently. So far my own experience is limited to a few short trips in class 387/1 between Royston and Cambridge, and an even smaller number of very short Central London journeys on class 700s. For journeys t...

Re: Doncaster Works lists

Thanks, I asked more in hope than expectation! 5818 (arrived Doncaster 20/03/74) and 31294 (arrived Doncaster 06/03/74) were actually the last green class 31s. 31294 is reckoned to be the only class 31 to carry a TOPS number in green livery, but I'm on the look out for good evidence to substantiate ...

Thanks Ian, this list is potentially of huge historical significance.

Did you record, or can you remember, any livery information for these? And do you have any pictures?

Re: Doncaster Works lists

I wrote this about a year ago, and I'm pitching it up to the front as it is relevant to my post about Dalescroft Railfans.

Hopefully there are some people, not reading the discussion board a year ago, who will read it now, and be able to help.

Thanks.

Re: Dalescroft Railfans

I am interested in Doncaster Works and specifically class 31s as I am trying to build up repair histories. The main other "Works" that I am interested in is Stratford DRS, which did a lot of class 31 work, particularly collision damage repairs. However Stratford reports only occasionally distinguish...

Re: Dalescroft Railfans

I was one of the early members of Dalescroft Railfans Club joining around 1963/4 and remember going on several visits to Derby works, Crewe works etc by train and meeting up there. I stopped being a member around 1969/70 Interesting recollections. Are there any surviving records of those trips? I w...

If you are at the AGM I'll try and find you and explain what I know about email, it is not easy to put on here and make sense to all.
That's a shame! A written explanation that made sense to all would be very useful, at least to me.

Re: Dead or Dying Already?

You have my sympathy but I doubt that I can provide any practical help. My knowledge of all this stuff was mostly learned at work and has not advanced much since I retired. I do nearly everything on Excel or Word in the hope that Windows will last longer than I will! I try to do backups onto memory ...

Re: Storm Doris

There were virtually no GN trains north of Cambridge after lunchtime, and absolutely nothing beyond Ely. Repairs at Littleport were not finished in time for start of service but that did not matter much as Kings Lynn only had one unit, which formed the 0651 departure. Traction wise the highlight yes...
