MAY UPDATE: Anyone who has looked at the photographic record in the news section of the Clan Line website will see there has been a great deal of progress.The cladding has been finished, the nameplate backing plates are in place, the grate is now in place along with the damper and hopper mechanisms....

Good progress has been made at LNWR Heritage at Crewe. Clan Line is looking like a real engine again, the cab is back in place and most the boiler cladding and lagging has been refitted.

As a former Southern Region train planner I shall be most interested to see how the new franchisees will be able to accelerate services to Southampton and Bournemouth without taking out stops or increasing the line speed. Currently fast trains take 74 minutes to Southampton and 105 minutes to Bourne...

The boiler has now been reunited with the frames, progress continues apace. There is an excellent series of photos on the news section of the Clan Line website.

The boiler has now passed it's out of frames steam test.

The boiler has passed it's hydraulic test at 400 psi, the clock starts ticking when it is back in the frames and a steam test is carried out.

01/02/17 update Repairs to middle big end are complete and motion fully reassembled, all three valves now set. Work on the boiler is almost complete, an official hydraulic test is provisionally planned for next week. This is when the clock starts ticking. Painting of the tender and cab is under way,...
