A bit more disclosure from me: having grown up around Tokyo in the 1970s, it was all
bout high-density EMUs--and nothing else. Mainline steam disappeared by 1975 in Japan, but I never came close to them. My parents bought me books along the lines of "world's railways", and I have seen pictures of Flying Scotsman with Deltics, along with the "brand new" HSTs.

Looks like the majority (in the Forum/online) seems to be pre-1968. And hands-on experience inside signal boxes--not something boys can dream of today. I wonder if the Society has recruited the first batch of privatisation-era colleagues brought up on Turbostars and Pendolini....
