Italian Mystery breakthrough

Post by Peter Hall » Thu Feb 18, 2016 4:42 pm

I often refer to 'Diesel Dilemmas' as being akin to a fisherman with one piece of bait in a very large pond with one fish. Hopefully one day the fish will take the bait. Well, I have had a bite when it comes to the Italian mystery, or at least part of it. Extensive trawling of Italian sources by David Gregory has unearthed vital clues. Most importantly it has been established that the Class 04 with Attilio Rossi is in fact D2231 not D2232 as always quoted. Further details can be found at
https://www.rcts.org.uk/features/diesel ... tiliorossi and http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/diesels ... sels/D2232

Until now D2231 had never been a suspect with regard to Italy having always been recorded as having been scrapped at Steelbreaking & Dismantling, Chesterfield. However, it appears no actual observations of it in that yard have ever appeared.

It is almost certain that D2232 was, as suspected actually, scraped at G. Cohen, South Bank, Middlesborough.

D2432 on the road

Post by Peter Hall » Sun Feb 21, 2016 10:15 pm

Today I have gained permission to include an amazing picture of D2432 passing through Gosforth in 1969 on the website. Not by rail though, the picture was taken in the High Street! The picture can be found at http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/diesels ... s/D2432-uk and http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/diesels ... sels/D2432

I have also taken the opportunity to up date the text for this locomotive. If you ever saw this locomotive either in Scotland, Kent. Italy or points between and have not yet submitted your sighting please do so.

Post by Peter Hall » Fri Feb 26, 2016 9:44 am

Thanks to David Gregory and Alberto Perego we have now been able to add pictures of D2231 and the mystery Class 10 in Italy taken in June 1973. These were taken by Alberto who has not only allowed us to use these pictures but provided other extremely useful information that has proved a great help. The pictures can be found at http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/diesels ... tiliorossi and http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/diesels ... sels/D2232

Worth mentioning that as a result of airing this mystery on the RCTS website contact has been received from enthusiasts in Italy, Germany and The Netherlands as well as all parts of the UK.

Italian revamp

Post by Peter Hall » Fri Apr 29, 2016 12:27 pm

This week we have received two amazing sets of pictures of Ex BR diesel shunting locomotives in Italy, one from 1977 and another from 1996-7. Some have been published previously but the majority have not. This has allowed us to increase the number of such pictures in http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/diesels ... sels/italy and its linked pages and the opportunity has been taken to revise various text so it reflects where we are. Bit by bit information is coming to light about the Ex BR diesel shunting locomotives that went to Italy but we are still along way from knowing the full picture. If you know something we don't please get in touch if you have not done already.

Diesel Dilemmas experiencing cyber attack

Post by Peter Hall » Fri Sep 02, 2016 11:13 am

Although the system of submitting sightings to the various 'Diesel Dilemma' appeals has worked very well so far we now have a major problem. From time to time spurious submissions have appeared but these have been few and quickly dealt with.

In the last week or so we have suffered a massive attack so extensive that the pending approval box has overflowed and the option to delete cannot be got at.

Thus, for now, if you do have any submissions these will have to come by email until to attackers can be repelled. Unfortunately any submissions in the last couple of weeks may well have been lost, so if you have added any and they have not appeared it would be appreciated if you could submit again by email.
