Preserved BR DMU disposals

Post by Peter Hall » Fri Apr 08, 2016 7:31 pm

Following requests the BR design Diesel Multiple Unit vehicles that entered preservation and are now scraped have been added to 'Preserved Coaching Stock disposals'. The direct link is http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/carriag ... sposalsdmu

There are several disposals where queries exist so any help resolving these would be very much welcomed.

LMSR/BR Steam Heating Vans

Known information about these can be found on the Society website http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/carriag ... msrheating Anyone who can add further details particularly with regard to locations in the 1970s is encouraged to get in touch.

A member doing research on another topic at Kew has come across references to one of these 44417, later DM395949, seeing use in connection with Royal Train workings on the Western Region in the early 1970's when based at Worcester. Does anyone have any further details about this usage?

Post by Peter Hall » Thu Nov 10, 2016 8:43 pm

A few days a couple of very interesting pictures of this train dropped into my inbox along with a few extra details. These have now been added to the Fisons and BR Weedkilling Train conundrum http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/carriag ... ges/Fisons Details of the NE train follows those of the Fisons train. Further contributions are very much welcomed.

Fisons Weedkilling Train

Post by Peter Hall » Mon Dec 05, 2016 10:39 pm

Out of the blue an email will drop into my inbox which allows further fascinating pictures and information to be added to a feature on the website. That happened tonight when two pictures arrived of the Fisons Mk IIIa Weedkilling Train. These have been added to http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/carriag ... ges/Fisons which has also seen a few other tweaks including some interesting pictures of one of Chipman Weedkilling trains.

The Fisons' and the weedkiller trains would often stable in the up sidings to the immediate north of Retford station in the 70s when they were on duty in the area.

Clearly recall the white coloured coaches and some of the later green, or green and yellow ones, all always caked in white chemical 'dust', a fact that at the time suggested that the change from all 'white' to a coloured livery was a retrograde step due to the spray contamination on the bodywork.

Regrettably no dates and no doubt they were seen all over the ER, but only stabled at set locations where there was ample space.
