I have records of visits to Doncaster Works spanning the years 1973 to 75, all with the Dalescroft Railfans. I think there are 4 visits in total. Plenty of Class 31s around at the time. If anyone wants this info then please let me know.
I also recollect that we visited Stratford Works but this was an ad hoc add on to a trip around the shed so unsure what was in the Works as opposed to the Shed.
I have kept all my spotting books and have dates and info from about 1972 onwards, prior to that I didn't keep a record of the date just the location. Stupid boy!
Hope this helps
Regards
Nigel

Hello Nigel

Yes please I would like the class 31s on Doncaster Works lists that you have for 1973-75. I have a few lists for 1973-75 but some big gaps.

There's a separate thread on the forum for Doncaster Works lists, which I have "bumped" on the forum. I'm easy on where you post your lists, here or there. but the Doncaster Works thread already has some lists from that period and might save you some typing if there are duplicate dates.

And my own records are much the same, nothing useful for historical reference until 1972.

Thanks

On some of my visits to Stratford shed in the late 70s and early 80s I kept the DRS locos separate, you can peruse them here:

Dalescroft v Counties at the AGM

Post by Peter Hall » Wed Apr 25, 2018 12:32 pm

As has been touched on, there was a great rivalry between Dalescroft Railfans and Northern Counties Transport Society in the 1970's as to who could see the most locomotives or visit the most locations on a trip. My allegiance was with the Counties and I am aware of a couple of former members who will also be present, as I hope to be, at the RCTS AGM on Saturday. Will any former Dalescroft members be in attendance? If so, be good to have a chat. I hope to be wearing my NCTS badge.

Dalescroft Railfans morphed into RESL - Railway Enthusiast Society Limited. It was run by Dale but he often had Neil Webster RIP doing a lot of the leg work.
RESL came to grief when they advertised sheds full of motive power on railtours but BR/successors started charging a fortune for specific loco requests. I have logs of most of these Railtours. I was on the Plant Invader which went to Doncaster Works in conjunction with a railtour. A lot of motive power on that one. I never joined Dalescroft but I did buy a copy of their Loco Traction booklet which I seem to remember Ian Allen suing them or attempting to for copying their publication.

I have just come across my old Dalescroft Railfans Club badge. Would anyone like it? I will post it to you free.

Hi,
Just stumbled across this discussion and thought I'd add to it.
I was a member of Dalescroft during the 60s and early 70s. Knew Dale Fickes quite well.
Living in Manchester at the time we either went to Bradford to join the coach tours or they sometimes picked up in our area if they were heading that way.
I'll dig out my spotting books and provide a list of the trips I did if anyone is interested. I think I did some NCTS ones too.
Also, someone asked about a Dalescroft advert in Railway Magazine. As I've most of those for that era I'll have a quick look to see what I can find.

I was a member of Dalescroft Railfans joining in July 1967, my first trip was 21 July 1967 around Stoke area. I have all my notes for the trips I went on bar one for the ten years I was a member.
I have in my mind they did East midland depots on 22 July 1967 but can't be sure as I'm missing these. Would be grateful if anyone can help.
