Many thanks with all your hard work on this thread Ian. I know it's not easy trawling through old notebooks, but your hard work has helped me fill some significant gaps in my HST formations/workings archive. Just one question and it probably is due to a "typo" but on 12th August you have both 43054/55 and 43006/7 credited with working the 09.43 Swansea-Paddington. Wondered perhaps if one or the other was observed on a different date, or alternatively whether 43006/7 was noted at Cardiff on 12th working a different service.

Thanks again, Kevin.

Kevin,

I have referred to the original written records which appear to be the only question mark in the whole week. I have therefore deleted the reference to 43006/7. At this point in time I cannot recall if there was a swap of sets at this point or not. It is the only question mark over the whole weeks recordings, in retrospect. My apologies for not spotting this before posting. Thanks for your vigilance.

Ian

Thanks for the clarification Ian. The only thing I can add is that W43006/7 were paired together on 08.08.77, but W43007 was stopped for a Turbocharger change on 09.08.77. On 10.08.77 I have record of 253 003 formed with W43007/23 on the 12.15 Paddington-Swansea. On 11.08.77 the set worked the 08.43 Swansea-Paddington/12.20 Paddington-Bristol TM. On 12.08.77 the same set finished at Swansea, and worked the 06.40 Swansea-Paddington on 13.08.77. W43007 was back in traffic paired with W43051 on set 253 021 on 12.08.77 but I have no record of it's actual working. Although my records are fairly comprehensive over certain periods there are numerous gaps and the information you have posted has been invaluable in filling a few of them. For instance, the observation of W43024/16 in what appears to be 253 020 accounts for the unavailability of W43040/41 which were both stopped on 09.08.77.

Thanks Kevin

Kevi,

You have sent me on to review my normal records for the week, rather than the Railrover record.

From this, the date of 13th August 1977 shows, and it appears that I travelled to Swansea by car then did a Swansea - Neath run behind 43007 and 43006! Also noted on this day at Swansea were 43025 and 43053 (not recorded if paired or on separate trains), but no other HSTs.

That was the end of the Welsh escapade, not sure if that makes it better or worse for your records?

Interesting Ian, I have recorded 43025/53 (253 026) on 13.08.77, working the 13.15 Paddington-Swansea and 16.43 return on 13.08.77. If it worked to diagram it would have started the day ecs Canton-Swansea for the 09.43 to Paddington. I have W43006 and W43007 on separate sets. As mentioned previously 43006/23 on the 06.40 Swansea and 43007/51 (253 021) noted at Cardiff, possibly on the 08.43 Swansea-Paddington. In the case of W43006/7 the plot thickens!! Thanks for the additional info.
