As no doubt many people have during lockdown I have been sorting through my old notes & records and I am searching for the number of steam locomotives in capital stock on the above dates to help put my records into a bit more context.
I would appreciate if anyone has any information on these or where I might find the information
Thanks

Hi, not specific to your dates, but are you aware of the excellent book British Railway Steam Locomotives 1948 - 1968 by Hugh Longworth? This lists every locomotive, complete with withdrawal & scrapping dates, although, mores the pity, not the last allocation nor location of disposal (although that may have been because of all the unknown info). Nice cheap used copy available here: https://onlineshop.oxfam.org.uk/shop/bo ... lsrc=aw.ds

Or there are the Locomotive Stock Books published by this august Society - you will want the 1966 edition.

Various lists of steam locomotive allocations were published in Railway Observer, though not matching your requested dates.
RO 02/65 page 44 WR and page 47 SR at December 1964
RO 06/65 page 184 LMR at April 1965
RO 08/65 page 268 ER, page 270 NER, page 272 ScR at June 1965
RO 02/67 page 40 BR at January 1967
All of these lists give total numbers allocated to each depot.
It would also be worthwhile to check the Stephenson Locomotive Society Journal.
As a researcher of Modernisation Plan era railway history I'd ask anyone revisiting their old records to share them on the internet, especially anything that clearly identifies loco, date, location and train worked. And please don't ignore the diesels, they were an important part of this period of railway history too.
