The December edition of the RO is now on-line. The printed version will be despatched in approx 10 days so should be with members around 3rd/4th December

As notified last month, provided they are registered as MEMBERS on the RCTS website ALL members of the RCTS have automatic unrestricted access to the digital version of the current RO, as well as the digital archive which holds copies of all RO's published since 2013,
This ensures that even when we are not experiencing postal delivery difficulties - which are unpredictable - you can access the most recent digital RO a minimum of two weeks before the printed version arrives on your doorstep.

Finally, having now been Managing Editor for some eight and half years and on behalf of the two dozen or so other members of the Editorial Team, can I thank the many members who take the trouble to contact us with generally appreciative comments about the RO, as well as all of you who take the trouble to regale us with the observations, reports, articles and images which irrespective of what we the Editorial Team are able to achieve, remain the essential lifeblood of the RO.

Best wishes to each of you for Christmas and the New Year.

Early Christmas Present from the RO Team . -

The January 2020 edition of the RO is now on-line. I hope that the printed RO will be despatched in approx 10 days so should be with you before Christmas - subject of course to postal effectiveness.

Just to re-iterate that, provided they are registered as MEMBERS on the RCTS website ALL members of the RCTS have automatic unrestricted access to the digital version of the current RO, as well as the digital archive which holds copies of all RO's published since 2013,
This ensures that even when we are not experiencing postal delivery difficulties - which are unpredictable - you can access the most recent digital RO a minimum of two weeks before the printed version arrives on your doorstep.

The April edition of the RO is now on-line. The printed version should arrive in approx 2 weeks time.

Please see the note on page 283 stressing the likely need for more items / images of a more general historic nature as a means of offsetting a probable reduction in reports / images of current rail operations during the current period of national emergency.

The May edition of the RO is now on-line.

However because our printers are currently closed to the Covid 19 crisis the print edition will not be produced until stable normal working is resumed.

As of today it is not possible to predict when this will occur but our working assumption is that print circulation of the RO is unlikely before the JULY issue of the RO at the earliest.

However all print subscribers will eventually receive copies of all 'delayed' editions as soon as both the RO Editorial team and our printers are able to resume a normal pattern of operations.

Meantime, so long as the crisis lasts I re-iterate our need for more items / images of a more general historic nature. Even after the general lockdown ends the UK's railways will be facing their greatest operational and existential crisis in their 200 year history - Beeching not withstanding.
Whilst we are determined to report developments on the changes to come it is likely that the reports we receive maybe very different in both scale and content to those we are used to and to supplement this we rely on your help to continue feeding us with interesting images articles and news items that you feel your fellow members will be interested in.

If you have not already spread the word to your fellow members :-

ALL RCTS members - irrespective of subscription type - do have unrestricted access to the digital version of the RO provided they have registered as MEMBERS via the website.

The June edition of the RO is now on-line as a PDF on the Society website.

However we are having a temporary problem with E-mag access via Pagesuite and you may find you are getting a 'Publication not currently available' message when you try to access it.

Hopefully this will be cured after the Bank Holiday in the next couple of days so.check in on say Wednesday and hopefully you should find it.

Our printers remain in lockdown and the print edition will not be produced and circulated until stable normal working is resumed although It remains impossible to predict when this situation will end. It now seems likely that the JULY issue will also initially be available only as a digital edition. However all print subscribers will eventually receive copies of all 'delayed' editions as soon as both the RO Editorial team and our printers are able to resume a normal pattern of operations.

Thanks to those of you who have thus far responded to our plea for additional photo-based articles and features - as you will see in the June edition we have received some interesting stuff and now have a reasonable file of material for the next month or so. However please keep up the good work as we have no idea how long the current situation will last and we do need a wide range of material to keep you both entertained and informed.

The Editorial Team has been at full stretch with an 'unprecedented ', as we now say, level of effort needed to produce the June edition no less than 74 images this month, and we need your help to ease what we expect to be a continuing situation. Therefore two points to bear in mind :-

- all submissions of material including both text and images should be forwarded to the Managing Editor as a single package, with text ideally attached as word documents and any images attached as seperate Jpegs - not please simply dropped into the Word document.

- whilst we recognise that many images will be of considerable vintage and pre-digital, please adhere to our published photo guidelines for submitting them for possible use. Definition needs to be sharp, composition well framed and scanning of a reasonable standard. Whilst we are happy to consider hard copy submissions of photo prints and slides, these again need to be of high standard and accompanied, like all unsolicited hard copy material with an SAE if return is required.

Remember ALL RCTS members - irrespective of subscription type - do have unrestricted access to the digital versions of the RO provided they are registered as MEMBERS via the website.

I trust you are all keeping well and fulfilling your time usefully with the armchair hobby despite the inability to use /or access the railway.

Regards
