John Medley : A Medley Medley 4 09/03/24

In recent years John Medley has presented several traditional slide shows of his own photos to the branch, and at our meeting on 9th March he showed the latest of these, which was appropriately titled  ‘A Medley medley Part 4’. He commenced colour slide photography in the 1970s when he was able to record the last years of the much-loved Western diesel hydraulics, and this time around the images shown were from that decade through to the 1990s. Many views were of the Devon main line and depicted the various diesel classes that were seen in that period, the highlights included some fine shots of the Dainton and Rattery banks and a number featured semaphore signals before they were removed as part of the Exeter MAS scheme. One section was devoted to HSTs displaying the various liveries carried by the class. In addition to these local scenes, John often visited South Wales on business and took the opportunity of recording activity in that area; other views seen were from further afield, with photos taken as far north as Edinburgh and Dundee. The images shown were mostly taken on sunny days and were of a high technical quality, and the presentation was well received by an appreciative audience
