Re: Gollanfield, Freigh/Passenger Trains collided,June 9th,

I think that the information you require is here: http://www.railwaysarchive.co.uk/docsummary.php?docID=973 The document is at Kew reference MT114/312: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C2367241 All railway accidents are investigated. Re: Library

This is a quick note to let everyone here know that I visited the library in Leatherhead yesterday and did some real research!

Thanks to all involved in getting the library up and running.

Re: Library

I have not been expecting any substantive announcement about library access until after the members' weekend. I appreciate that those involved are busy with the official opening and the members weekend, but I'm still incredulous that the Society can invest all this time and money in a new facility, ...

Re: Library

The October RO is now online and I made a beeline for the official announcement about the library, but it took some finding! The Society does seem intent on hiding its light under a bushel instead of blowing its own trumpet. For those who did not read to the end of the Chairman's address, the announ...

Re: Could Class 08's be used as Emergency Generators?

There are other known uses of locomotives as stationary generators. The best example is for train heating, where we already gave a Diesel Dilemma. I recollect in the 1970s 47155 was borrowed by the CEGB for use at West Thurrock power station, and others may be able to think of more examples. But I'm...

Re: NBL D61xx Class 21/29

I was recently prompted to revisit the NBL Type 2 saga and noticed a reference to a report of the Society Whitsun 1964 Scottish Tour reported in Railway Observer August 1964 page 236. Does anyone still have records of the NBL Type 2s seen that weekend? In particular can they identify the "twelve cri...

Re: Royal Train Formations of the 1970s and 1980s

I have been making progress on researching Royal Train journeys between London and Sandringham via Liverpool Street and Kings Lynn. Members here might be able to help me by confirming or contradicting the following conjectures suggested by my research: Liverpool Street was used instead of Kings Cros...

Re: Oldhams Railways - Parcels Concentration Depot

Do you know which catalogue companies had warehouses in the Oldham area? Catalogue shopping was a significant source of railway parcels traffic in the 1960s and 1970s. Freemans opened a new warehouse un Peterborough in 1969 with a bridge over the ECML giving direct access to the new Peterborough Pos...
