On 23 June 1978 SR N-15 King Arthur 30777 "Sir Lamiel" and SR electric loco 71001 were hauled together from Ashford, Chart Leacon, to Stratford DRS. They stopped only for a couple of days. On 26 June they were observed continuing their journey through Cambridge hauled by 31322. They were observed at...

Re: LNER D-49 class 4-4-0 Peebles-shire
Colleagues, I have now found the answer to my own question, but thanks for the interest. It transpires that there was an error made in the report in Railway News no. 2 and it is noted in the next issue, no. 3 for July 1928 that "4-4-0 'Shire' class No. 311 'Peebleshire' is not No. 283 as noted on pa...

LNER D-49 class 4-4-0 Peebles-shire
I am looking at the Railway News vol. 1 no. 2 for June 1928. In the section on the LNER it has a table of names and numbers of the D-49 Shire class locomotives. It is headed OFFICIAL List and was submitted by N. Rodd. The entries agree with with that in Locomotives of the LNER Part 4, except for no....

Re: RO Archive
Further to my last, I have continued scanning and digitising ROs and have now almost completed up to 1990. I just have 1973 and 1988 to do - don't ask why they are out order! When done there will be available a complete run 1932 - 1990 and 2008 - current. Does anyone here have, or would be prepared...

Re: Railway & Travel Monthly, 1910 - 1922
Dear Richard, Thanks for the publicity. As well as the Railway & Travel Monthly, 1910-1922, the GERS has also digitised the following major historical items: The Great Eastern Railway Magazine, 1911-1926 The LNER Magazine, 1927-1947 British Railways Magazine, Eastern Region, 1948-1963 Handbooks of t...

Re: RO Archive
Gents, I am prepared to offer what I have scanned to the Society, provided that it is made available for sale to all members at reasonable cost. Further, I am prepared to arrange to get discs duplicated by the same company that Terry used for the original magazines he offered for sale. I have experi...

Re: RO Archive
Hi David,
That is really great news. Is there any timescale for when it will be available? And will it be done professionally, or by Society members? Or is it just a sales proposal?

Re: RO Archive
Apologies, I scan at the magazine's native size, it is near A4 when folded out flat. But as I scan at 400dpi, the files have pretty good resolution and the pictures look great on the screen. The OCR is pretty successful at that resolution, although for some reason nothing on the front page gets reco...

Gents, I'm afraid that I won't be at the AGM. When scanning, I scan two pages at once, with the staples in. My magazines are in Easibinders, so I do not want to destaple them. Nevertheless, I am able to take the magazines out of the Easibinder to scan them on a flat-bed scanner. I scan at 400dpi, th...
