Re: PEAKS at Manchester Piccadilly Sept 1976- Mar 1977

Of possible interest to those interested in historic loco-hauled workings, I have been informed that an updated version of the "timewarp" site has now gone on line, now known as "The RailGen Archive". It includes many thousands of entries for loco hauled workings in the 1970s & 1980s http://railgena...

Re: RAF Troop Train route 1958 March Cardington Bridgenorth.

Hi All, Can anyone tell me the route an RAF Troop Train would have taken in March 1958 from Cardington to Bridgenorth. Many Thanks. Ian With so many alternative routes available at that time, I think your only hopes of an accurate answer would require a search through all the Special Traffic Notice...

Re: Size of the RO

(And if anyone views the on-line R.O., having a photos spread over 2 separate "pdf" pages looks visually absurd - sorry, Editors, I appreciate you take a lot of your time for the benefit of members, but this is one area that needs to be reconsidered. ) Did you know that you can set Acrobat/Adobe Re...

Re: Size of the RO

Personally, I do not favour an increase in the R.O. page size - mainly for practical reasons. I am already finding problems with storage of R.O. and other magazines, and anything that needs even more storage space is unwelcome. And since photographs have been mentioned, I wish the team would stop pr...

Re: PEAKS at Manchester Piccadilly Sept 1976- Mar 1977

One other train at Manchester Piccadilly in 1976/77 that could have produced class 45s was the North Country Boat Train from/to Harwich which changed locomotives at Sheffield. The Boat Train reporting numbers were 1M72 and 1E87. At that time, the Harwich - Manchester and return were booked througho...

Re: Why are you a member (or not) of the RCTS?

As (life) member 8050, I joined mainly to participate in shed visits organised by what was then the Merseyside Branch. I also travelled on numerous RCTS steam railtours. I attended meetings for several years, but finally gave up after nearly getting stranded in Birkenhead due to rail problems. A 2 m...

Re: Is disposal information of rolling stock relevant?

I suspect that there may never be total accuracy in steam loco disposal history. I recall that on many locos in "pre-scrap" condition, there could sometimes be no easy method of identification. No number plate, no cabside number - maybe just a number stamped on a coupling rod or axlebox. But compone...
