Noted that LNER are already sponsoring community events for coming months with banners noted at important cities / locations served by the route, even though the handover hasn?t officially taken place yet.

Manchester Tunnels
Whilst no longer accessible due to the redevelopment taking place above at the Great Northern Goods Warehouse, here is a fleeting glimpse from a tour a few years ago of the underground tunnels and canals beneath the former Manchester Great Northern Goods Warehouse.

Re: Manchester Mayfield
Quite a descent attendance in the pouring rain (well it is Manchester), including a number of participants from other railway societies as well as members of the general public turned for the tour. The 1910 built station will change radically as part of the redevelopment into 1300 homes, offices and...

Re: all nighters
Personally, not since those years, but I know of people who have. Obviously security is a problem in our paranoid H&S age nowadays, but I understand that Carlisle is good for variety and provided you warn them in advance, the staff are often accommodating too. That is no guarantee though. Most place...

British Rail Scene; The 1970s and early 1980s in photographs. Andy Sparks The History Press ISBN978 0 7509 7013 6 This soft back book is the third in the author's series, and kept me enthralled throughout. Not least because it was in an era I knew very well. Such nostalgia! Well written and accurate...

Re: Class 308
The class number was not carried until the later years on the ends. Normally they just had the three digit unit number displayed in the 1960/70s. As the Wiki article says regards dates:- "In 1983, three former Class 308/2 units (nos. 314/319/321) were converted into Class 308/4 postal units by the P...
