Why are you a member (or not) of the RCTS?

Whilst Branch Chairman in Sheffield, prior to my dispossession in the coup d'?tat early this year, I kept asking the same question of members. This being 'Why are you a member of the RCTS?' Not surprisingly I had few responses! There was of course good reason for asking. As a Branch Chairman such in...

Is disposal information of rolling stock relevant?

There has been mention in the RO in recent years of errors having crept into steam locomotive disposal information. Similarly quite a few queries in http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/diesels/ concern similar discrepancies with diesel locomotives whilst http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/carriages/ has a ...

Re: Sightings

Isn't the purpose of the RO to include "sightings"? Is this Forum going to replace the magazine? Surely the idea is to make key sightings available earlier with them also appearing in the RO were they can be referred to at a later date. I remember in the late 1970's scouring the RO as soon as it ca...

Re: RAILWAY OBSERVER CHANNEL

Regarding the content of the RO. Is the section on Traction and Rolling Stock which shows all of the transfers, new allocations etc. gleaned from official records or is it based on information from RO correspondents? North Road Works What could be considered to be 'official rolling stock changes' c...

Re: South Wales Electrification

Will it be an isolated electric network though? I put the question as I have yet to see in print any official information as to how the wet 'designed to leak' Severn Tunnel can be adapted for 25KV ohl electrification.

Re: Sightings

With regard to current sightings there are two 'Diesel Dilemmas' which encourage current sightings of particular Class 08 locomotives associated with the Somerset Quarries. These are http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/diesels/?id=diesels/quarries and http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/diesels/loco.htm?id=...

BR (S) Class 08s D3092-D3101

An interesting feature of D3092-D3101 was that they were the only Class 08s built without train brakes. This clearly was the reason they were amongst the first Class 08s withdrawn as surplus (as opposed to damaged) in 1972. They spent their entire operational BR life on the Southern Region. It is pr...

Class 03 found in Italy!

The mysteries surrounding the former BR shunting locomotives that were exported to Italy in the 1970's remain to be resolved. For those not familiar with the topic then it is worth spending a few minutes browsing http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/diesels/content.htm?id=diesels/italy and its links. Alt...
