A reminder that the Tyne Valley drags start this coming weekend. Details at http://www.rcts.org.uk/branches/sheffie ... eld/draggs Could I once again appeal for any observations and photographs to be forwarded. We still do not know the drag locomotive used on a number of the trains for the previous two Autumns and similarly no photographs have been received. Surely someone in the area observes, photographs or travels on these trains.

Those who look at the feature on the website will realise we are till using pictures from the past as links to other recent drags again due to lack of photographic submissions in recent years. A similar problem exists for the early years of the century when Class 47s were still being used.

The next dragging takes place in January with diversions via Hartlepool and details can now be found on the website.

I do occasionally receive comments about how useful a resource this information is with its past, present and future content. It could of course be made even better with more pictures and observations.

Tyne Valley drag disruptions

Post by Peter Hall » Mon Dec 07, 2015 10:38 am

For observers, photographers and travellers on the Tyne Valley drags on Saturday (5th December) things did not go exactly to plan. The website has been updated to reflect what is known but further details would be appreciated.

It is sad to report though that not one photograph of this years Tyne Valley drags has been submitted for use on the Society website and presumably also none have been received by the RO picture editor.

The weekend drags via Hartlepool are now under way. I have just updated the details for the first weekend.

Apologies for the delay. I suffered a catastrophic computer failure in mid December followed by unrelated catastrophic failures to my reserve computer when this was coupled to the internet, then and to a third emergency back-up computer when this was brought into full service.

Should anyone have emailed me between 15th December and 7th January with drag information and pictures could I ask if they resend them as it appears all emails received during that period may be lost. Similarly, if you emailed before 15th December and have not received a response could I ask that you also re-send.

The above applies for emails applying to other website ramblings. However, any submissions of observations to the various 'Diesel Dilemmas' are safe and wil be activated in the next few days.

ECML Dragged Trains update

Post by Peter Hall » Wed Feb 17, 2016 10:16 pm

Still battling to catch up after my various computer problems. Details of the Winter drags via Hartlepool are now fully updated http://www.rcts.org.uk/branches/sheffie ... 20winter16 Also fully updated are the Early Spring drags via the GN&GE Joint line http://www.rcts.org.uk/branches/sheffie ... 20spring16

The next planned dragging is in April between Doncaster and York. Details can be found at http://www.rcts.org.uk/branches/sheffie ... tespring16

It does appear the various ECML drags are very rarely photographed based on the number of photographs submitted.

ECML Doncaster - York drags

Post by Peter Hall » Sat Apr 02, 2016 9:27 am

A reminder that dragging between Doncaster and York starts this weekend. Full details at http://www.rcts.org.uk/branches/sheffie ... tespring16

Unfortunately the Sheffield Branch member who provides the majority of observations will be elsewhere on some of the days. Thus, even more important that anyone making observations submits them.

I read somewhere that more photographs are now taken in one year than have ben taken cumulatively in the last 100 years. Oddly it would appear that very few if any of the photographs now being taken are of ECML drags based on submissions to the RCTS website and RO. Thus, could I again appeal to anyone who has taken photographs of the ECML drags, particularly on the move, to add to the pictures we already have on the website.

Doncaster - York drags April 2016

Post by Peter Hall » Tue Aug 16, 2016 11:45 am

It has been a struggle to obtain details of what actually happened with these drags. We were aware things did not go totally to plan on Sunday 3rd April which resulted in an extra drag, Details of for this day are now included. However, we are still lacking any observations for 16th April.

Despite it being alleged that more photographs are now taken in a year than have been taken in total previously this is nor supported by our experience of photographs of ECML drags. It appears no one ever takes pictures of these anymore! Consequently links on the website use pictures of earlier drags and none are included on the individual pages. Anyone willing to help to prove us wrong?

ECML Tyne Valley Dragged Trains September & October 2016

Post by Peter Hall » Fri Sep 16, 2016 9:52 am

Quick reminder, in case you have forgotten, that the coming weekend is the first of five when ECML trains are diverted via the Tyne Valley. Details of the trains planned to be dragged can be found at http://www.rcts.org.uk/branches/sheffie ... 20summer16

Could I again appeal to those members and others who have invested in the technology of photography first developed in the Victorian era and plan to set up their tripods, image collecting boxes,, cape and explosive flashes in an attempt to capture an image of the dragged trains to forward the results for possible use on the website and in the RO. Similarly, the results of any previous attempts to capture on glass plates earlier drags would also be welcomed so we do not have to keep using the same pictures as links.
