Talyllyn Railway Through the Years (DVD)

Post by RichardCoulthurst » Tue Nov 03, 2015 10:02 am

The Talyllyn Railway Through the Years, DVD, 97 minutes, 4:3 aspect ratio, colour/b/w, EAN 5 030095 10012 0, Oakwood Visuals, PO Box 13, Usk, NP15 1YS, ?18.95 (www. oakwoodv.co.uk)
The Oakwood Press have brought out this DVD on the Talyllyn Railway and I have just received a copy for review. The first 20 or so minutes comprise of b/w cine footage taken by L T Catchpole in 1938 and colour film by Patrick Whitehouse in 1950 from just before the time when the line was taken over by the TRPS. The rest of the DVD is a compilation of scenes from the whole of the preservation era including some very early scenes showing the dire condition of the railway in the early days. The whole of the route is covered including the Nant Gwernol extension. The narration is by Ken Morgan and there is no intrusive background music. The film is of excellent quality and this would be a great Christmas gift for anyone interested in narrow-gauge or Welsh railways.
If you buy this DVD please mention that you saw it here on the RCTS Forum as this helps raise the profile of the society with publishers of books and DVDs.
