Bookings have been arrriving very quickly this year, 69 people have now booked for some or all of the Members' Weekend events.

Any members intending to book had best do so urgently! Remember that the visits are filled on a "first come first served basis", the later you book the higher the chance of the visits being full!

A very worthwhile week end spent in and around Grange over Sands. The hotel was a very good choice with views over the Kent Estuary and the outings were well chosen. The only disappointment was the after dinner speaker who was hard to follow and who perhaps could have given some outline on DRS activities and its future. Many thanks to the organising team who as ever gave more than 100% effort to ensure such a good week end. Looking forward to next year in Southend.

Officers Conference 2016 minutes

Post by Peter Hall » Sat Oct 29, 2016 12:02 pm

Would it be possible for someone in the know to say when the minutes will be available on the website?

Although Branch officials are presumably reporting back those who are exiled and branchless or simply unable to attend Branch meetings for logistical or similar reasons are also very interested to know what was discussed.

As we say in these parts the word on the street is that "troubles brewing at mill" with regard to the library, new website and RO format. Thus, it would be useful to know what actually was said asap in order to extract the wheat from the chaff at the rumour mill.

At present it is not possible to say when the minutes will be available - there is a process that involves a number of officers to arrive at the finished document being available for all to read.

Only a modest start has been made in their preparation but for a change the conference finished before the due time indicating a more quiet and subdued event when compared with previous years.

Having been at the Officers' Conference I can only say it was a satisfying event and Peter Hall should not be worried over those issues he mentioned. Our Society Chairman knows how to run meetings efficiently and effectively allowing those presenting reports time to do so. If a branch cannot find anyone to represent them at these annual conferences then its their own hard luck not to be kept up to date with what is happening.

Officers Conference Minutes 2016

Post by Peter Hall » Fri Dec 02, 2016 10:29 am

Just checked and these are not yet available online, but hopefully very soon as they have now been circulated to Branches.

Sadly, ten out of thirty Branches appear to have not been represented. Thus, a third of members who attend Branch meetings, as well as those that are unable to attend Branch meetings will have had no feed back and of course were not represented.

Although prentonmember feels that I should not be worried about issues I and others have raised on this forum and elsewhere a read of the minutes suggested otherwise to me, anyway.

The possibility of changing the size of the RO was raised but amazingly no questions were raised or comments made regarding this from the floor, neither were there about any other aspects of the RO. Cost implications and only being able to comment by emai should have been raised. One National and three Branch officers are shown as not having emails in the directory so how do they respond? Let alone the many members who don't?

Although covered, the Web4 Project and Leatherhead library projects continue to progress at a snails pace and lack of a timetable of when things are targeted for suggests further slippage. These have major current and future implications for the finances. Obviously David Kelso is heavily involved with these projects and it is indicated he is stepping down from a number of roles If it is his role in these projects then I would have expected more information about who was taking them forward or clarity that he was continuing.

Hopefully we will know more after this weekend.

If you would still like to attend the conference and associated activities and have a tardis available then booking forms are available at https://www.rcts.org.uk/about/news/page ... cts/oc2016
