Re: Library
I suspect an announcement might be made at the same time as the answer to what happened to the 'Mary Celeste' is given.

Re: Library
Interesting to note that the Development Sub Committee Report submitted to the 2016 AGM says that refurbishment of the house was expected to be completed by February of this year, clearly referring to 2016. However, the Photographic Archive and Library Report to be submitted to the 2017 AGM suggests that it was almost complete on 9th February 2017. Clearly a years slippage in a year with regard to the building works. Is it possible for anyone to enlighten as to the reason for this slippage?

Note that developments with the Library are being discussed in the Society Yahoo group but not on here.

Re: Library
As Peter Hall correctly says in the last few days there has been a discussion on the RCTS e-mail group about the future of the library. This was started by Andy Davies who posted the following asking for assistance with the project. This does not seem to have been posted here so I am forwarding it for the benefit of forum members who might not also be members of the e-mail group.
The RCTS Management Committee has to make a decision whether or not to proceed with creating an Archive at Leatherhead Stationmaster's House. In addition to the significant financial implications of this decision, there is the question of whether the society has enough members willing to volunteer to assist in the setting up and running of the archive.
At present we have four storage sites (Uxbridge, Stevenage, Stockport and Northampton) as well as significant quantities of material stored in members' houses. Although it is anticipated that the bulk of the archive material will be moved professionally, there will be a significant amount of work to be done once it arrives at the new archive.
The purpose of this request is to gauge members' interest in volunteering to assist with the setup and running of the archive.
I anticipate the following roles will be required initially:
* Erection of shelving / racking
* Unpacking and sorting of boxes as they are delivered
Once the archive is open, we will need volunteers to:
* Staff the archive and welcome visitors.
* Assist disabled visitors with collecting items from the upper floor.
* Scanning photographs.
* Cataloguing and sorting book and photograph collections.
* Tidying shelves.
* Computer skills (to assist with managing the catalogue system etc.)
* General expertise in IT.
The actual opening times will be determined by the number of volunteers willing to assist.
Remember: if the archive is to be a success it requires your help.
If you are able to assist in any way, please contact me :

Re: Library
Brilliant news, and well done to all those who have worked hard to make it happen. Are there any more details about the official opening?
