A good run today despite challenging conditions with light drizzle and greasy rails especially on the 1/96 up Gomshall bank, arrival back at Victoria was 7 minutes early.

On Good Friday, 30th March the Belmond Pullman is unable to run via the normal 'Surrey Hills' route due to a major blockade between Clapham Jn and Feltham Jn by both Richmond & the Hounslow loop. As an alternative the train will be running through Kent departing at our normal time of 12 28 with run non stop to Margate via Chatham due to arrive at 14 27 where water will be taken, unfortunately it will be a bit of a pedestrian run due to the number of speed restrictions imposed. The return departs Margate at 14 41 and will run via Canterbury West & Maidstone East, water will be taken at Harrietsham from 16 30 to 16 50, we are due into Victoria at 18 14. The loco will be carrying full Golden Arrow regalia and for historical accuracy Stewarts Lane No.4 duty will be shown on one of head code discs. A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to make this happen.
I understand Belmond are offering a discount, £357 instead of £395 if anyone is feeling rich!!!!
Anyone in the Kent area out with your cameras.

A successful Good Friday trip round Kent despite the weather conditions. On the return the gods were against us, we were held at Kemsing as the result of a bridge bash then to compound it we were cautioned at Swanley due to a potential suicide, the train was 26 minutes late at this stage, however with some spirited running and diversion via Herne Hill we finally arrived at Victoria 12 1/2 late. The loco had 13 vehicles equal to 504 tons on the drawbar, the performance was all that we have now come to expect of her. The driver for the whole trip was Paul Major from DBC based at Hoo Junction. Some good u-tube of the run is available on the Clan Line facebook site, also on Nat Pres.

A successful run to Bristol on Wednesday, the support crew were on duty by 0430 for the 0843 start from Victoria. As we were routed via Swindon this meant it was not possible to pull coal forward and add water treatment under the wires at the Milton Jn water stop so coal was pulled forward at Ascot prior to reaching the overhead. On the return we suffered a 12 minute late start due to operating reasons, this was regained by omitting the Swindon pathing stop which was passed at speed, finally arriving back at Victoria within a couple of minutes of time. It was well after midnight by the time disposal at Stewarts Lane had taken place and our all volunteer support crew could head home to their beds. Altogether a long and tiring but satisfactory day.

'The Quantock Explorer' - Saturday 26th May.
A good & successful tour which unusually required a departure from Stewarts Lane the evening before in order to berth overnight at Southall, so as to able to attach to the empties from Eastleigh on Saturday morning for the departure from Paddington at 0805.
Departure from Paddington was right time, a good run was had to Reading where the train had a 7' late departure to let two late running GWR service trains precede. All traffic was booked via the Berks & Hants as the route through Swindon was closed. Water was taken at Theale up loop, the departure was 3' early but time was lost following another late running GWR train, the train was then brought to a stand approaching Woodborough due to trespassers reported on the track, this resulted in a late arrival at the next water stop at Frome however time was made up resulting in a 3'early departure. Taunton was reached 3' early with after some fine running en-route where the WSR crew joined.
The WSR had decided to attach a class 33 DL to the rear of the train in view of the gradients, speed restrictions and early morning rain, in event this did not provide assistance. Arrival at Minehead was 6' early. Clan Line hauled the return train as far as Bishops Lydeard tender first, where she was detached in order to give way to a DBC Class 67 for the return to London, again the train was delayed by late running GWR services resulting in a 15' late arrival at Paddington.
Clan Line will remain on display on the WSR at Bishops Lydeard until Tuesday when a positioning move will take place to St Phillips Marsh, Bristol prior to working the 'Torbay Express' on 3rd June and a trip to Par on 17th June, returning to Stewarts Lane on 19th June.

Currently at SPM Bristol, FTR passed for Sunday's 'Torbay Express' to Kingswear, all looks set fair including the weather which has to be a improvement on both of last year's Torbay runs.
