AYR STATION AND LINE CLOSURE

Post by MIKER » Thu Aug 30, 2018 2:43 pm

Anyone wishing to see Ayr station hotel had better get a move on. Station and line to south of Newton onAyr is being closed indefinitely after Sunday to enable demolition of essentially derelict hotel in within which now privately owned station is built. Reports suggest all trains will be turned around Prestwick and closure will be until Early October.
Major disruption to all Ayrshire coast services expected none of which has been caused by any railway body. Both ScotRail and NR doing their best in difficult circumstances.

From ScotRail: Ayr station remains open for business and, despite reports, will not be closing on Monday September.

Happy to advise that as of three days ago Ayr station is now fully operational so far as train movements are concerned and the bus connections from Prestwick no longer operate. However the normal public concourse remains closed and seems unlikely to reopen until the future of the hotel building is determined. The whole fabric of the station and hotel is now encased in a vast white plastic cocoon which will make for some interesting pics. It should also be noted that the Stranraer service resumed in November.
