Pye Corner Station

Post by RichardCoulthurst » Mon Nov 17, 2014 7:38 pm

Pye Corner Station on the Cardiff to Ebbw Vale line is due to open on Sunday, 14th December, 2014. (Sunday is quite unusual for a station opening.)

Pye Corner Station is on the outskirts of Newport (Mon) and is near the site of the former Bassaleg Junction station.

The publicity blurb says:

"It is hoped that the introduction of the new station will be able to relieve congestion on the roads, boost the local economy and greatly improve access to public transport for people in the area."

This seems optimistic for a station with an hourly service and a car park for just 60 cars.

The bit about relieving congestion and increasing traffic is one of those classic PR statements trotted out ever since railways began. It's like the umpteen thousands of jobs that will be created by new projects, such as HS2 - from what and from where?
