Although I'm a recently joined member, I do enjoy reading this column in the Railway Observer.

I particularly like the Rail Tour Report from March 1968 in the current (June 2018) issue. This tells the story of a rail tour on 16th March 1968 from Leeds to Rose Grove, Lostock Hall, Carnforth, Barrow and the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway which looked like a long day but a very interesting one.

What interested me, though, was the fact that the departure from Ravenglass on the way home was some 17 minutes early, and the departure from Carnforth was 23 minutes early! My question is this: "How did they get everyone back on the train at Ravenglass and (possibly) Carnforth to achieve an early departure? I've organised trips in the past where it's very difficult to get everyone back on the transport for an on-time departure, so how they did it for an early departure, I have no idea!

Does anyone have any thoughts, please? Thanks.
